What is Dental Monitoring?
Dental Monitoring is a system that utilizes cutting-edge technology to allow you to communicate with your orthodontist via an app by doing weekly scans of your progress at home! This incredible innovation uses the ScanBox, a mouth scanner, and your phone to collect data on your tooth and jaw positioning. The information is sent to our office to be analyzed, and our orthodontist can make a recommendation based on the scans and photos that you took yourself. Your visits are limited to those that are absolutely necessary for you to come into our office.
Dental Monitoring allows you to spend less time driving back and forth from the orthodontist’s office for some monitoring check-ups that usually take less than 20 minutes. At Thabet Orthodontics, we know that people are busy, but we do not want this to get in the way of perfecting your smile. Forget taking your teen out of school early for a retainer check or rushing to an appointment during your lunch break, with Dental Monitoring you can do some of your orthodontic check-ups using the device in the palm of your hands.
Who Qualifies for Dental Monitoring?
This system is great for adolescents, teens, and adults. The Dental Monitoring app is compatible with both iOS and Android devices that most Americans already use on a day-to-day basis. It is available to those who opt for braces or Invisalign, so virtually everyone is a candidate for Dental Monitoring! Both new and current patients can use Dental Monitoring. If you are interested in this service, speak to your technician during your next appointment to learn more or start setting up an account.
Benefits of Dental Monitoring
The most obvious benefit of Dental Monitoring is that it will save you hours of transit time and chair time at the orthodontist’s office. With this system, you will only need to physically come into the office if we are alerted to some sort of issue with your treatment. Every week or so you will use the ScanBox to take a scan of your tooth and jaw positions. This takes less than 5 minutes, and the data is sent using an AI to our office. If everything looks good, your orthodontist may give you some tips on brushing hygiene or an update on your progress, but you will never have to step foot in the office! If the ScanBox shows any sort of issue with your treatment, you will be asked to come into the office. Reasons you may need to come into the office include wires that have moved, the potential for a cavity or gum issues, or a bracket that is broken. For patients using Invisalign, Dental Monitoring can even allow you to progress to your next aligners without having to come in for an examination. Essentially all of your check-ups can be done from the comfort of your own home, office, or on-the-go if you live an especially busy life.
The Dental Monitoring app will even alert you when it is time to take a new scan so you do not have to keep dates and times in the back of your mind. It will simply send you a notification whenever your orthodontist needs to check your progress and guide you with clear verbal instructions on how to take a scan. It may take a few tries for you to learn how to properly scan your mouth. If one of your scans is rejected, do not panic! The app will give you an explanation of what you need to do differently before taking another scan.
Besides saving you time, Dental Monitoring allows you to watch your treatment progress from your phone. The app’s photo morphing technology shows you how your teeth have moved throughout the weeks, letting you see the evolution of your perfect smile. This often makes our patients excited about their past progress, as well as eager to continue taking great care of their teeth throughout this journey.
